Welcome to the Web Site of the Lions Club of Maidenhead. Our members are dedicated to the Lions motto 'We Serve'. Lions are members of Lions Clubs International, a community service organisation dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why. The Lions Club of Maidenhead is part of the world's largest service organization, with 1.35 million members serving in 206 countries and geographic areas. The association is both non-political and non-sectarian. OUR LAST EVENT - DUCK DERBY, SUNDAY 19 JUNE 2022.
The annual Maidenhead Lions Duck Derby was held on Sunday 19th June 2022 on Ray Mill Island.
It was a great Summer's day and the Island was awash with families and their pets on a glorious day-out. Rain was forecast and the organisers panicked earlier on, but the rain clouds blew past overhead. There was a wonderful selection of local businesses and charities offering handcrafted goods and community services. There was a dedicated Children’s Activities area with music, story telling, face painting and everthing to make the day fabulous for everyone.
At the end of the day, there was the Duck Race which was started by the Mayor, Councillor Mrs Christine Bateson and 2500 bright yellow ducks were released to swim (bubble) towards the finishing line in the Thames, aided by the local Sea Scouts.
Winning Tickets this year were:
Duck Number 1561
Duck Number 1712
Duck Number 819
Congratulations to the winning ducks and a big thank you to all those who attended and who, by their presence, made a massive difference to our cause and to our ability to assit the needy in our local area. We raised in excess of £2500 from duck sales with more funds raised form other causes, events and ideas.
We thank you and hope to see you at the Derby next year.
People want to help in the current crisis. We have created a just giving page for any donations to specifically help Ukraine. We promise to pass on every penny donated including gift aid, to the LCIF Ukrainian appeal. LCIF are supporting local Lions clubs in neighbouring countries who are all helping Ukrainians affected by the current war and its impacts.
