Where does the time go?

It's very hard to believe that it is 20 years since I first joined Maidenhead Lions. I have always supported various charities, and was delighted to get a leaflet through the door telling me all about my local Lions Club. They mentioned that the club had recently voted to admit female as well as male members. So it sounded like an ideal hobby for me & my partner (and future hisband) to enjoy together. We went along to an open evening at Maidenhead Golf Club and the rest, as they say, is history.

We quickly got involved in the many fund raising activites, especially loving the train. It really was a case of finding the fun in fund raising! And we were delighted that we were involved in discussing and also able to vote on how the monies raised were to be sent.

In no time we were both taking responsibility for organising events. It was really satisfying to meet so many lovely local people and to have that warm glow of satisfaction when you get to the end of a very busy day at an event, and you know that loads of people have enjoyed a good day out and you have raised lots of money to help others as well. A virtuous circle indeed.

I'll write another time with more details about what we enjoy getting involved in.

Meanwhile, here are some photos of us. The first one shows my husband Robin presenting a generous Lions cheque to the Alexander Devine hospice, and the second shows me (Brenda) next to Philip & Theresa May MP at our annual Swimarathon, which I have organised for the last few years.
